Please Note

You may earn provisional certification in a subject only once during a four-year period.

Provisional certification is valid through May 29, 2009, when the regular course season is complete.

No registration substitutions are allowed.

Provisional Certification

Provisional certification is available for both Inspector/Installer and Site Management for the 2008 construction season through September 30, 2008.

How to Earn Provisional Certification

The steps for earning provisional certification are as follows:

  • Submit a registration form to our office with payment.
  • We will mail to you a registration receipt and study materials.
  • Call to make an appointment to take the exam.
  • When you arrive at the exam, you will be asked to provide a photo ID and your registration receipt. You may use your study materials during the exam. You will be required to watch a 26 minute tape at our facility. The process may take up to two hours.
  • The exam will be graded at the University of Minnesota and if you pass you will receive a provisional certification card two to three days after you take the exam.
  • If you do not pass the exam, you must contact us to make arrangements to take it again. You can retake it once without paying another fee. After that you will need to pay the full fee again.

Fees

The registration fees for provisional certification are:

Inspector/Installer: $105
Site Management: $105

There is a $25 cancellation fee which will be deducted from your refund should you decide not to take the test.

No registration substitutions are allowed for provisional testing. Original registrations are required in the name of each individual who is applying for provisional certification.

Locations

Testing will be done at the Bioproducts and Biosystems Department on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus on a daily basis (Monday through Friday) EXCEPT for May 26, July 4, and September 1. Testing can begin as early as 8:00 AM; the last starting time is 2:00 PM. Please call to make an appointment when you are ready to take the exam.

Provisional testing is a cooperative effort of the University of Minnesota Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
